Interior Paint Ideas – 4 Color Myths

Painting is probably one of the least favorite and most misunderstood of home projects. This is unfortunate because painting rooms can put a perfect finishing touch and give you the look and feel that you want for your bedrooms, bathrooms, and all the living areas of your home.

There myths surrounding how to paint, even when to paint, and which paint to use. Most of all, there are myths about using color. It gets to the point where homeowners just want to throw up their hands and leave the walls a safe and noncontroversial white. Let’s bust four big color myths that will let you break free of the monotone monopoly.

Myths

Dark colors are heavy and make a room feel smaller.

FACT: A dark room can feel just as big as one painted in a lighter color. Using a satin to semigloss paint helps to reflect light whether it is natural or from lighting fixtures. Dark colors can also have a grounding, soothing, and calming effect.

The only neutrals are beige, cream, or gray.

FACT: There are colors such as green and blue that are on the neutral spectrum. The colors are not saturated – they can be muted or slightly greyed editions, but don’t qualify as pastels.

All white is boring.

FACT: Any color can be exciting, depending on what you do with the room as a whole. There are also lots of different shades of white ranging from snow to aged ivory that can form a spectacular setting for your furnishings and accessories.

Rooms must all be related colors.

FACT: It is possible to tie rooms together with trim colors, flooring choices, or colors from the same family. But there’s no reason that you should have to paint all of your rooms in the same colors or the same shades. Get some variety in there! Shake it up!
